Tom's Mom's Cookies--An Up North Treat

IMG_2173.JPG

What began in Harbor Springs in 1985 as a tiny shop focusing just on great cookies is today, well, nothing has changed. This tiny Northern Michigan shop still bakes great cookies only now the whole country knows about them!

Tom's Mom's Cookies has been featured on the Food Network and Rachel Ray. In February 2010, it earned 2nd place in the Luxist Readers' Choice Award for best cookies as one of only five cookies nominated. These cookies are worth writing home about.

The tiny pink and blue shop in downtown Harbor Springs in well known by locals and visitors and with the recent national publicity, Tom's Mom's Cookies' website is nearly as popular as the walk in traffic. When the store opened in 1985, it was the first of a small franchise based in Charlevoix. When the parent company folded owner Sheryl McCleery kept her cookie shop.

Tom's Mom's Cookies focuses only on cookies--no trendy cup cakes, pies, or pastries. Just cookies made with real ingredients--pastry flour, butter, vanilla, and great chocolate. Tom's Mom's Cookies now has 17 varieties of cookies and they are so popular that they are often featured at weddings! Yes, weddings. They are that good.

2010 was the Silver Anniversary of Tom's Mom's Cookies. Their motto of keeping the business small, simple and good helps keep the ovens busy all but three days of the year. At the 25th anniversary celebration on Memorial Day 2010, 900 dozen original Tom's Mom's Cookies were sold!

Stop by and get one of your own.....or call and have them shipped to you!
