Mary Ellen's Place--A Classic Diner
Mary's Ellen Place is a fixture on Main Street in Harbor Springs. This classic diner first opened in 1928. Sold to Harry Linehan in 1945, Linehan's News Stand then became owned by Fred Linehan, Harry's son, and in 1988, Mary Ellen Hughes bought the diner. Mary Ellen's Place continues today in the same tradition of great food and service just as this diner has for the 83 years customers have walked in the door.
Nostalgia? Yes, definitely at Mary Ellen's Place! This 1950's style diner is the real deal. The old fashioned soda fountain is the source for excellent sodas, shakes, malts, coolers. These real sodas, the ones so popular in the 1920's--flavoring, seltzer water, and ice cream. Try a Boston cooler with Vernor's, Michigan's own version of ginger ale. Sanders toppings are a specialty here and in fact, Mary Ellen's Place was the first Northern Michigan source for Sander's toppings back in the 1980's.
Mary Ellen's Place is the perfect dining place for breakfast and lunch. Crispy hash browns with eggs any style for breakfast and a burger or homemade soup for lunch are just two of the tasty menu options. Dine at the counter or at one of the booths or parlor tables.
Just as Mary Ellen's Place began from Linehan's News Stand, the news stand is still a part of this business today. Mary Ellen's Place carries a variety of daily and weekly newspapers and her bevy of newspaper carriers deliver the Petoskey News Review five days a week. Customers will often come to the counter, announce their name and be handed that day's national newspaper that is held their for them. Personal service with a smile!
Mary Ellen's Place is open 7am-3pm Monday-Saturday, and for breakfast on Sundays 7am-12:30pm spring, winter, and fall and 7am-1:30pm during the summer months.
